My coaching involves counseling religious people on an individual or group base. The methodologies I apply are grounded in multiple psychotherapeutic frames of reference as well as the religious context.
My training includes handling of conflicts, dealing with affectivity/sexuality and prevention of boundary violations.
Offering consultation focuses on giving advice on what to do when faced with mental health questions and dilemmas among religious.

About me
I was born in 1958. After high school I studied medicine at Radboud University Nijmegen. In my student days I lived in a ecumenical community with religious and lay people.
After completing my training as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, I started working in the field of mental health. When working in this field questions arose such as ‘who is this other person?’, ‘what is their life story?’ and ‘where are the vulnerability, pain, damage as well as the resilience and inspiration?’.
To be able to meaningfully engage with a person consistently, one has to ask oneself these questions and reflect on them. Fortunately, on my own path in life I encountered people who supported me in this.
About the practice Aelred
The practice Aelred started on August 1st, 2023. The name Aelred is taken from Aelred of Rievaulx, a 12th century monk, historian and author who was abbot of the Cistercian abbey at Rievaulx in Yorkshire, England. This abbey was founded in 1132 by monks from the Abbey of Clairvaux (France), well known because of Saint Bernard.
Aelred wrote several spiritual works including Speculum Charitatis (The Mirror of Charity) and De Spirituali Amicitia (On Spiritual Friendship), two works that provided inspiration in my life.
In my work as a psychiatrist-psychotherapist and being a member of the Christian faith community, I’ve noticed for quite some time that religious life doesn’t spare people from doubts, uncertainties and crises of various kinds. In these cases careful listening, pastoral care and occasional professional assistance can be helpful.
At a group or community level, tensions can sometimes have detrimental or even destructive consequences. In such a situation, customized coaching can be used.
